FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is talk-based therapy between a client and a regulated mental health professional.  It allows for self-awareness and identifying of unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. Collaboratively, we will set goals and discover what improvements you would like to see in your mental health and well-being. Generally, psychotherapy can be offered in individual therapy sessions, couple therapy sessions, family therapy sessions, and group therapy sessions. I currently offer sessions for individuals and couples.

What is a Registered Psychotherapist?

A Registered Psychotherapist refers to an individual who has been specifically trained to provide psychotherapy and is licensed and regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

Is online therapy right for me?

Many people enjoy online therapy sessions, but it might not be the right fit for you. You know yourself best. If you are the type of person who needs to be in a face-to-face setting, sitting across the room from a therapist to be able to express yourself, you will want to seek in-person therapy. If you are on the fence about online therapy, try a session and see how it feels.

Online therapy is easy and accessible with many benefits:

Convenience – your life is busy, save time and eliminate the hassle of commuting to appointments and sitting in waiting rooms. Therapy is only a click away.
Comfort – therapy can be difficult and emotionally taxing. You can now have your therapy session from the comfort of your own home.
Privacy and Security – I understand the importance of your privacy, especially when using online platforms. Rest assured that your therapy sessions and data is held by secure encrypted platforms that exceed PHIPA and PIPEDA health care compliance.

Online therapy is easier and more convenient than meeting in person. All you need is a strong internet connection and a phone, computer, or tablet. Follow these 3 easy steps and you can have your first session today.

Step 1 – Schedule Your Appointment. Book an appointment on your selected therapists’ calendar

Step 2 – Create Your Secure Account. Your account will give you access to your video therapy sessions, invoices, and scheduling follow-up sessions

Step 3 – Start Therapy. On the date of your appointment login to your account at the appropriate time and start therapy, it’s that easy!

Yes. I understand that selecting the right therapist is a big decision, I am happy to offer a free 15-minute phone consultation, should you need it, to ensure you find the right fit. You can book your free consultation

Do you charge insurance companies directly?

At the moment I do not, you will have to submit your receipts for reimbursement. After you have completed a therapy session you will automatically be sent a receipt which will be stored in your account and a copy will also be sent to your email.

How long does a therapy session last?

Hourly individual sessions last a total of 50 minutes. You can also book extended sessions (75 or 90 total minutes) if you feel more time is needed. Prior to your first session be sure to complete your assessment form and submit your consent forms, this will allow your therapist to be prepared and will not take away from your session time.

What methods of payment do you accept?

I prefer eTransfers or  (email transfer - EMT) and also accept major credit and debit cards, processed through the Jane App booking system.
